Play.Innohub13 is an interactive virtual platform for straightforward conversation, conferences and workshops. The system is based on workadventu.re and is hosted on servers at TH Wildau. Let’s dive into how you can join the fun!

Requirements

Play.Innohub13 runs in a browser window. To enter, simply visit: …

• Google Chrome (and related browsers like Brave and others) offers the best performance and reliability. Use Chrome if possible.
• Mozilla Firefox works sometimes, but not always reliably.
• Microsoft Internet Explorer, Edge and Apple Safari barely work, often they don’t work at all.

You also need

• An internal or connected microphone (headsets work best)
• An internal or connected webcam

Simply enter your name and hit ENTER or click “Continue”.

2. The next step is to create your avatar (also known as WOKA). You can pick a pre-defined avatar or build your own by clicking on “Custom your WOKA”.

3. Using the arrow keys ⬆⬇⬅➡ you can adjust your avatar. You can pick skin color, eyes, hair, head covers, clothing and objects. When you’re done, hit ENTER or click “Continue”.

4. In the next step, you’ll set up your microphone and camera. To do this, you have to grant access rights to your browser. To avoid repeating that step every time you reload the page, make sure to save the setting “until forever”. You can later adjust your choice in your browser’s settings page if necessary.

Pick the correct camera and microphone using the arrow keys or by clicking on the presented buttons.

To test whether you picked the right microphone, simply speak a few words and observe the green meter. If you see the green bars lighting up, you’re likely to have picked the right microphone.

5. Hit ENTER to confirm your choice. You will now enter Play.Innohub13.

6. Your avatar is shown at the bottom of the screen at the entrance to the venue.

1. 1. You can move your avatar using the arrow keys ⬆⬇⬅➡. Pressing SHIFT allows your avatar to run quicker.
   2. Using the SPACE bar, you can interact with some objects. When a prompt appears at the bottom of your screen, you can join group calls (Jitsi calls) and open websites.

7. Have fun exploring the world and interacting with other participants!

Tipps

• You can talk to others by approaching them. If you are close to one another, a video call will open. Up to four people can join such a proximity-based video call.
• It you want to talk to larger groups, use one of the many jitsi call session implemented into the map. The Jitsi calls are marked by carpets and similar markings on the ground.
• A map is located in the central area. It shows the location of all Jitsi call areas.
• The Jitsi calls offer standard video call functionality: You can share your screen, mute yourself, raise your hand to speak and use a chat window. Note that none of the interaction is recorded, so if you want to save any links in the chat window make sure to copy and paste them to a safe location before exiting the call.

If you run into any problems, make sure to follow all steps in this introduction again very carefully. If you can’t solve the problem this way, reach out to us.

Problem: The site isn’t loading/I don’t see what’s presented in the screenshots/The site looks distorted and is dysfunctional.

• Open Play.Innohub13 in Chrome browser.
• Reload the page.
• Deactivate any plugins that change the content of a website (Script blockers, ad blockers and similar plugins).
• Cookies are required to enter Play.Innohub13. Make sure your browser accepts cookies.
• Restart the computer.

Everything is slow and laggy.

• Play.Innohub13 is based on workadventure which – like all video conferencing tools – requires a lot of computational resources. However, most recent machines should run Play.Innohub13 just fine.
• If possible, run Play.Innohub13 on a faster machine.
• Close other resource intensive software such as video conferencing software (zoom, webex) to allow more resources to be used by Play.Innohub13.

I can’t hear others/Others can’t hear me

• Use a computer with a connected headset for optimum performance. In order of diminishing quality, here are a number of options to provide sound:
• USB headset
• USB microphone and separate headphones
• Headset connected to the audio jack
• Internal microphone and connected headphones
• Bluetooth headset
• Any microphone and no connected Headphones
• Your voice will be picked up the better the closer you are to your microphone. An internal laptop microphone 1.5 meters away will have trouble clearly picking up your voice.
• Did you select the correct audio device at startup? Reload the page and choose the correct audio device. Test it by observing the green bars when you speak. 
• Is sound turned on? Check your system’s volume level and make sure that you are not muted (in the bottom right in Play.Innohub13).

I see stripes and banding and other visual artefacts in the world.

• We are aware of the problem. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to fix it. Some combinations of screen resolution, browser and operating system can lead to this effect.
